William Edward “Bill” Hartman Jr., 61, of Apache Junction, Arizona, formerly of Sioux City died Sunday, December 3, 2000. At Hospice of the Valley in Glendale, Arizona.

Memorial services were held at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. Reverends William E. Hartman III and Brian Hartman officiated. A Masonic Service was held prior to the memorial service. Burial was in Hospers Cemetery.

William was born August 4, 1939, at Le Mars, the son of William and Bernice (Whitmeier) Hartman. He attended school in Hospers and graduated from Hospers High School in 1957. He was employed as a route salesman with Wonder Bread for more than 30 years. He married Shirley DeHaai on September 4, 1979, at Yankton, South Dakota. He retired from Wonder Bread in 1995, and the couple moved to Arizona.

Mr. Hartman was a member of Masonic Lodge, Consistory and Ahu-Bekr-Shrine Temple, all in Sioux City.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Rhonda Mount of Portland, Oregon; three sons and their wives: Arlo and Leslie of Pace, Florida, the Reverend William Edward III and Linda of Keokuk and the Reverend Brian and Jill of Mesa, Arizona; two step-daughters, Muriel and her husband John Dean and Vivian DeHaai, all of Lincoln Nebraska; a step-son, Marvin J.H. DeHaai of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Jackie and Gene Herbold of Pierson; two brothers and their wives, Darrell and Shirley of Maurice and Jerry and Linda of Marara, Arizona, and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Aalbers of Pella.
