William E. Hartman, Sr., 63, longtime Hospers restaurant operator, died Friday August 7 at the Sheldon Hospital. He had been ill since suffering a heart attack three years ago.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Monday, August 10 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers. The Reverend Norman Flink officiated. Burial was in the Hospers Cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg’s Funeral Home.

Hartman was born September 13, 1900 at Albert City, Iowa. He married Bernice Whitmier July 13, 1936. They were owners and operator’s of the Highway Café at Hospers for several years until ill health forced Mr. Hartman to retire.

He was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge 195 of A.F. and A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Abu-Bekr-Shrine Temple of Sioux City.

Survivors include the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Eugene Herbald of Pierson, Iowa, three sons--Darrel of Maurice, William, Jr. of Hospers, and Jerry of Le Mars and nine grandchildren.
