Dorothy Britzmann Cooper, 94, of Hawarden, died Sunday, June 18, 2000 at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Visitation will be Thursday, with the family present from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Dorothy Irene Britzmann Cooper was born Oct. 6, 1905 at Balaton, Minn, to John and Mary (Hall) Nixon. She graduated from the South Dakota Teachers College in Brookings, S.D. She married Herb Britzmann on June 6, 1926 at Balaton. Together they lived in Canton, S.D., Hartley, Iowa, and moved to Hawarden in 1932. They owned and operated women's ready to wear clothing stores in Oakland, Neb., Canton, Sheldon, Iowa, Rock Rapids, Iowa, and the Smart Shop in Hawarden. Mr. Britzmann died June 23,1965.

She married Robert C. Cooper on July 21,1974 at Omaha, Neb. They made their home in Prairie Village, Kan. She moved to the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Hawarden on Feb. 14,1998 due to declining health. Mrs. Cooper was a longtime member of the PEO and an active member of the Hawarden United Methodist Church.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Robert C. Cooper of Prairie Village; a son Dr. Burt Britzmann and wife, Joan, of Moscow, Idaho; a daughter Roxanne and husband, Loyle Larson, of Hawarden; a step-daughter, Mary Lynn and husband, Dr. Bud Gollier, of Ottawa, Kan., sister, Luella Maddy of Canton, Mich.; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one step-great- granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.
