Birth: June 4, 1813
Death: March 21, 1887

Mrs. Sarah S. Hardacre, the subject of this obituary, late of Derinda, in this county, died near LeMars, Iowa, at the residence of her son J. H. Hardacre, March 21, aged 75 years, 9 months and 17 days.

The deceased had gone to Iowa to visit friends, starting February 15, but being feeble in health the journey proved more than she was able to bear. When she arrived at her son's house, she was much fatigued by the journey and became worse. Her age and infirmities were such that notwithstanding the efforts of her physician and friends she continued to decline and in a few weeks passed away.

Mrs. Hardacre was born in Miami County, Ohio, June 4, 1813. She became a member of the Baptist Church in 1831, and was married the same year to Joseph Hardacre. She continued to live in the same place until the death of her husband, May 14, 1886. She removed to Illinois with her three sons and two daughters in 1869. We have good reason to believe that since making a profession of religion, she had lived a consistent Christian life and was perfectly resigned to her death; trusting in the will of God and animated by the faith she professed in her youth. Her memory and example are indeed a rich legacy to her children and friends, and we hope will prove a blessing to them, for "the memory of the just is blessed."

Nine children of the deceased survive her, namely; John, of Indianapolis, Indiana; George W., of Cincinnati, Ohio; Benjamin, of Stockton, California, Robert M. of Sumner, Illinois, Thomas M., of Smith Centre, Kansas; Edwin of Jo Daviess County, Illinois and Joseph H., of LeMars, Iowa. Her daughters are Mrs. Bray of LeMars and Mrs. Roberts of Sanborn, Iowa. One of her daughters, Mrs. Ravenscraft died a few months ago at her residence in Derinda.
