On Saturday at 8:30 A.M. April 12, the Alton vicinity was greatly saddened when grim death claimed the young life of Mrs. Peter J. Hansen.

The deceased, whose maiden name was Margaret Kilburg, was born December 12, 1880 at Springbrook, Iowa. She attended St. Mary’s Academy at Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin and was graduated in June 1906. Following her graduation she taught school at Alton, Iowa for several years and was joined in holy wedlock to P.J. Hansen of Alton on November 24, 1914. Her husband and one daughter, Mary Mildred, aged 7 and one little son, Karl Peter, aged 20 months are left to mourn her departure.

Mrs. Hansen was a quiet, home loving woman and a devoted and accomplished wife and mother and her untimely death is regretted by all. Funeral services took place Tuesday, April 15th at 10 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church where the deceased’s uncle, Reverend P.J. Puetz of North Washington, Iowa, sang a Solemn Requiem Mass in the presences of many relatives and friends. He was assisted by Very Reverend Father A. Brune and Reverend Wendi. Very Reverend Brune delivered an eloquent sermon and conducted the interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Besides her husband and two children she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kilburg and by the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. John Hansen and Arthur Kilburg of Alton; Misses Carrie and Jean Kilburg of Washington, D.C. and Sr. M. Georgia of Ossian, Iowa, all of whom were present at the funeral.

Out of town attendants at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Leo J. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Guckenberger, Mr. and Mrs. Nic Even, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Hansen, all of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. John Schuver and Mrs. John Schmidt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hansen, Remsen, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hansen, Oyens; Mrs. John Puetz, Nic Kilburg and daughter Margaret of Springbrook; Mrs. Frank Kilburg, Ottawn, Minnesota; Nic Kilburg, Bellevue; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kilburg, Mrs. T. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. John Streng, Mrs. Kate Hansen of Le Mars; Mr. and Mrs. John Konz, Lizmore, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. John Konz and Herman Schilmueller, Granville; Mr. and Mrs. Gust Alesch and Nic Kass, Marcus; and Al Noethen, Remsen.

The pallbearers were Mr. Hansen’s six brothers, Nic, John, Leo, Mike, Ben, and George. The sincerest sympathy of a host of friends in extended to the bereaved ones. Death seems cruel when we consider that He snatched away a young life from the midst of a family. But let us find consolation in the words of Longfellow: “O, not in cruelty, not in wrath, The Reaper came that day, Twas an angel visited the green earth and took the flowers away, But through the breath of these flowers is sweet to me, I will give them all back again.”
