Eileen Rohlfs, 95, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2017 at All Saints Parish – St. James Catholic Church. Reverend Paul Eisele will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2017, with a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m., all at the Rexwinkel-Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church.
Eileen Elizabeth Rohlfs was born March 25, 1921 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of James and Ethel (Hardacre) McGrory. Eileen was raised 2 miles north and a mile west of Craig, Iowa. She went to grade school at a country school a mile from her home. She graduated from Ireton High School in 1939.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Rohlfs on November 25, 1942. Shortly after getting married, they moved to Richmond, California. Eileen worked in the ship yards for a short time and then Standard Oil Refinery.
In 1945, they moved back to Iowa and started farming and lived on the farm she grew up on. In 1984, they retired from farming and moved to Le Mars in 1988. Ray passed away on August 6, 2016.
Eileen was a member of All Saints Parish – St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars and was active for many years at the Senior Center in Le Mars. Eileen and Ray enjoyed traveling across the United States on numerous trips and spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. While in Le Mars, she had a garden every year with her favorites of tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, and potatoes. She also kept busy canning, baking, and playing cards.
Survivors include a son: Jim (Mary) Rohlfs of Le Mars, Iowa; a daughter: Judy (Dave) Jurgenson of Montrose, IA; her grandchildren: Tammy (Marv) Camerer of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Scott (Tiffany) Rohlfs of Omaha, NE, Dave Jr. (Davette) Jurgenson of Wever, IA, Chad (Heather) Jurgenson of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Stacy (Jason) Graber of Donnellson, IA; 12 great grandchildren; her in laws: Shirley Hof of Sioux City, IA, Evelyn Dirks of Le Mars, IA, Leona Herzberg of Le Mars, IA, Robert “Sam” Rohlfs of California, Richard “Pete” (Lennice) Rohlfs of Le Mars, IA, and Joyce Borchers of Le Mars, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; her brother: Francis “Bud” McGrory; her sister: Kathryn (Luverne) Ehlers; and her in laws: Norman Rohlfs, Leo Rohlfs, Gene Rohlfs, Vernon Rohlfs in infancy, Katy Rohlfs, Robert Dirks, Elmer Herzberg, and Kenneth Borchers.
