Born: February 16, 1870
Died: 1931

William Hamann, a resident of this vicinity for many years, died in the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City last Thursday night. Mr. Hamann was taken there a few days earlier to have one of his legs amputated. He withstood this operation and was reported to be getting along as well as could be expected, but later complications developed from which he could not recover.

Mr. Hamann was born in Germany February 16, 1870, where he grew to manhood. While living in Germany he worked for a cement manufacturing company, a position which he held for eighteen years, and when he resigned this position, the company gave him a diploma for his faithful services and good workmanship, which he preserved and prized very highly during the rest of his life.

He was united in marriage with Ida Lahn in the year of 1894. He came with his wife to this country forty-three years ago, coming directly to Sioux County. They settled on a farm 5 miles south and 1 ½ miles west of Rock Valley where they lived for forty-three years, or until death claimed him.

Mr. Hamann leaves his wife and eleven children, Max Hamann, Mrs. Gotlub Gayer, Mrs. Ernest Miller, Mrs. Bernard Splear, Fred Hamann, all of Rock Valley vicinity, Mrs. Clifton Moore, of near Alvord, Will, of Los Angeles, California and Ted, Henry, Minnie, and Carl at home. He also leaves thirteen grandchildren, one brother, Fred Hamann, of near Alvord, and two sisters in Germany.

Mr. Hamann was a man who was well thought of by all who knew him. He was a man of quiet unassuming disposition; he was a kind husband and; a very successful farmer and will be missed in the neighborhood where he has spent so many years of his life.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Peace Lutheran Church south of Rock Valley. The services were largely attended by sympathizing friends and neighbors, and many beautiful floral tributes worn in evidence. Among the relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lahn and Mrs. August Moeller, of Humboldt, South Dakota, August Lock and Mrs. Will Schultz of Milwaukee.

Card of Thanks

We desire to express to all of our kind friends and neighbors, and all others who were so kind to us during our bereavement, for their help and sympathy, and also do we thank all those who contributed the beautiful flowers and especially Dr. Lock for his faithful services, and the choir for the hymns. Your kindness will long be remembered.
