The following item taken from the Charles Mix County News will interest our Sioux Center readers: "Died at the Charles Mix County Hospital in Geddes, S.D., on Friday morning Jan. 31, 1913, of complications of diseases, Verner A. Welcher, age 32 years. Deceased was born at Osceola, Iowa, on December 27, 1880; came to Geddes in the spring of 1902 and took a position with Johnson Bros. in the Charles Mix County Bank. He was happily married to Miss Alice Carrie Ingold at Hawarden, Iowa on September 26, 1906, and to this union two children were born, one of which survives him. The funeral services took place Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock February 2, 1913, from the Congregational church, Rev. Cassel officiating assisted by Rev. Greene, of the M.E. church. The Geddes Masonic lodge had charge of the service at the cemetery. The lodge members and members from the Platte, Lake Andes and Wagner lodges took part in the ceremony, and escorted the remains from the Hartzer residence to the church and from there to Pleasant Lawn cemetery. The service at the church and at the cemetery was most beautiful and impressive. The ladies in the choir were all dressed in white and at their front and upon the casket were great banks of flowers, sweet tokens of sympathy and kindly regard for the deceased. Three members of the Congregational church and three members of the Masonic lodge, acted as pall bearers they being F.A. Warnick, O.P. Wehdt, Jay Welsh, J.E. Tipton, A.B. Beck and G.B. Rothlisberger. The funeral was a very large one, not half the people being able to find room inside the church.
