Margaret Wolterstorff, 85, of Ripon, Calif, formerly of Hull, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, at the Bethany Home in Ripon. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at the Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull with the Rev. Corky De Boer officiating. Interment followed at Hope Cemetery in Hull under the direction of the Kraai-Oolman Funeral Home of Hull.
Wolterstorff was born Aug 27, 1909, in Hallum, The Netherlands, the daughter of William and Rena (De Boer) Smits. She arrived in the United States on Dec. 15, 1915, and her family first settled at Sibley. On Jan. 23, 1930, she married John Enoch Wolterstorff at Bigelow, Minn. They farmed at Bigelow, Ocheyedan, Raymond, Minn, and Prinsburg, Minn. In 1962, they moved to Hull. Mr. Wolterstorff passed away Oct. 3, 1980, at Hull.
In August of 1987, Mrs. Wolterstorff moved to Ripon. She first lived at Bethany Manor, then Beth Haven, and later at Bethany Home. She was currently a member of the Almond Valley Christian Reformed Church in Ripon. While living in Hull, she belonged to the First Christian Reformed Church, where she had been involved in the Ladies' Aid.
Survivors include her seven children and their spouses: Rena and Alvin Dykstra of Orange, Va.; Niclas and Clara Wolterstorff of Renville, Minn; William and Delores Wolterstorff of Ripon; Grace and Herm Van Beck of Waldron, Wash.; Marvin and Phyllis Wolterstorff of Elmhurst, Ill.; Mary and Del Hoogers of Steen, Minn; and Marti and Bruce Leonard of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Tena Steensma and Annie Braaksma, both of Sibley; Sadie Prangen of Ocheyedan; and Gertrude Heuseveld of Hornet, Calif.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Smits.
