Death: April 15, 1939

Mrs. Verner Cook, 43, passed away at the hospital in Hull on Saturday morning, April 15, 1939. Her death was a shock to the community. She was taken to the hospital March 14th, and operated on March 18th. Everything that medical skill and a loving family could do was done to save her, but to no avail.

Marie Eulberg Cook, daughter of the late John and Margaret (Moos) Eulberg was born September 12, 1895, in Granville, Iowa, and received her education at St. Joseph School in Granville. She was then employed at a restaurant in Granville for several years and later she worked as a waitress at the George Clayton Hotel in Paullina.

On March 9, 1915, Marie Eulberg married Verner Cook at the Methodist parsonage in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The first years of her married life were spent in Granville. Afterwards the couple lived for a time at Ruthven, Paullina and Cleghorn, settling in Sanborn, Iowa, in March of 1920.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Verner A. Cook, and four children: Mrs. Lucille Goodmanson of Paullina, Theo, Verner and Ronald all of Sanborn; one sister, Mrs. P. C. Ricker and three brothers, Henry, Edward and Adam Eulberg, all of Granville.

One sister, Abbie and one brother, Peter, preceded her in death as did her parents.

Mrs. Cook was a devout member of the Methodist Church, a worker in the Aid Society and Women's Relief Corps. She was a good neighbor and trusted friend. She took a great interest in her homemaking and garden growing. Raising canaries was an interesting hobby. The community loses a valuable and loved member in her passing.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Sanborn on Tuesday, April 18th, with Reverend Stannworth officiating. Pallbearers were V.S. Daniels, J.S. Spurr, Ernest Pippinger, Walt Jacobs, Chas. Seace, and Chas. Chambers.
