This community was shocked on Tuesday when it learned of the death of Arie Fonkert a young man well known here who lives in the vicinity of Newkirk.

Arie Fonkert accompanied by his brother Peter and Gerrit and stepfather J. De Haan went to Le Mars on Tuesday morning where he submitted to an operation for the removal of stones in one of his kidneys. An ailment which he had been suffering with for the past year. After the operation was performed he seemed to be coming out of the ether all right when suddenly he took a turn for the worse and died without having gained consciousness.

The doctors removed about twelve stones from this kidney the largest measuring about 1 ˝ inch in diameter and about 3 inches long.

Arie Fonkert was born on a farm one mile south of Newkirk on September 27, 1891, being 25 years, 7 months and one day old at the time of his death. He has lived in this vicinity all his life.

Mr. Fonkert had submitted to two operations prior to the one that caused his death this week. He underwent one operation 14 years ago, both of them being for the removal of stones in his bladder.

The funeral will be held today (Friday) at 12 o’clock at the J. De Haan home, west of Newkirk and at 2 o’clock in the church at Newkirk. Reverend R.D. Douwstra will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the Newkirk Cemetery.

The bereaved parents and relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in this hour of sad affliction.
