From the Sioux County Index (Hull), July 28, 1922:

Mrs. Robert DeYoung Dies

Mrs. Robert DeYoung passed away at her home in the south part of town last Saturday morning, July 15, 1922, at 4 o'clock, after a lingering illness of kidney trouble with complications. She had been ailing for many years and for the past three months had been bedfast. Mrs. DeYoung was a patient sufferer and through her long suffering she bore her burden with great fortitude. She was a faithful wife and loving mother and those who are left behind keenly feel their great loss.

Minnie Dykstra was born in 1875, in Oostrebieren, Friesland, being 47 years, 2 months and 2 days of age at the time of her death. She came to America at the age of seventeen, settling in Chicago. She was united in marriage to Mr. Robert DeYoung in that city in 1893. To this union were born six children, who with the husband survive her. The children are Jake, Mrs. Reka Mulder, Mrs. Jessie Gorter, of Doon; Miss Ruby at home, Gerrit of Alvord, and Mrs. Rena Kooiker of Perkins. She also leaves one brother, A. Dykstra, at Boyden, and two sisters, Mrs. Klaus Burrie of Sheldon and Mrs. Al DeRidder of Orange City.

After several years spent in Illinois, Washington and different parts in Iowa, the family moved to a farm east of Doon, where they lived for a number of years, finally moving to town where she resided up to the time of her death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the home at 1 p.m. and at 2 o'clock from the Christian Reformed church, the services being conducted by Rev. B. DeYoung. A large concourse of friends were present to pay their respects to their departed friend. Interment was made in the Doon cemetery.
