Word has been received of the death of Chief Warrant Officer Carroll M. Eastman, son-in-law of Mrs. Bertha Lynge of Sheldon, who was killed in action on the Korean front November 21.

Mrs. Eastman, the former Josephine Lynge, received the cablegram while visiting at the home of her sister, Mrs. R.E Snyder, at 1533 E. St. Johns Street, San Jose, California.

She immediately phoned the news to her mother, Mrs. Lynge, who was visiting at the home of her son, Captain Wilbur Lynge of Granite City, Illinois. Mrs. Eastman had arrived in California from Raeford, North Carolina, only a week before she learned of her husband’s death. Eastman had been stationed at Camp Pope, North Carolina, before going overseas.

The last word Eastman sent to his wife was that he was stationed at Seoul and that he was being moved but could not say to what destination.

Eastman was with the Headquarters Detachment, 934th Signal Battalion while serving in Korea. He and Mrs. Eastman had lived in Sheldon for one winter while he was recovering from malaria contracted in the South Pacific during his service in World War II.

Besides his wife and mother-in-law, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary Eastman of Mable, Minnesota, and one brother, Lee of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Eastman had been married five years.
