Obituary of Mrs. H. D. Leusink, Buried Thursday

Mrs. Lucy Leusink, nee Hymans, was born in The Netherlands on November 15th, 1881, and died on Tuesday, March 19th, 1940, at 12:40 P.M., at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of fifty-eight years and four months. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Hymans of this place.

She came to America at the age of twelve years, with her parents, and on January 15th, 1903 was united in marriage to Mr. H. D. Lensink. To this union six children were born, three of whom, with their father survive. They are: Mrs. Grace De Jong, Mrs. Dora Wesselink, and Mrs. Henrietta Van Surksum. The three who preceded their mother in death were: Garret John, who died at the age of 15 years; Luzina, at the age of 8; and Elmer Hyman at the age of 3.

Mrs. Lensink is also survived by two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. John Wolfswinkel Sr. of Hull, Mrs. John Leusink of Sheldon, and Henry and John Hymans of Hull; and by nine grandchildren.

[A note on her death in the March 22 Index says she was operated on at a Sioux City hospital a week ago and passed away very suddenly. A brief note on her death in the Boyden Reporter, March 21, says her death was due to cancer, as does one in the Alton Democrat, March 29.]

MRS. H. O. LEUSINK

Mrs. Leusink, 58, was born on November 15, 1881 in Oldebroek, Gelderland, Netherlands. She was a daughter or Mr. and Mrs. H. Hymens. She came to America at the age of 12 and lived near Middleburg.

On Jan. 15, 1903, she was united in marriage to H. D. Leusink. To this union six children were born, 3 preceding their mother in death, Gerrit John, 15, and Luzina, 8, met their death by accidents and Elmer Hymen died at the age of 3 years with a throat disease. Surviving are three daughters, Grace, Mrs. Gerrit De Jong, Hills, Minn.; Dora, Mrs. Dan Wesselink, Hull and Henrietta, Mrs. Jake Van Surksum of Bellflower, Calif., the husband and 9 grandchildren and two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. John Wolfswinkel, sr., Hull; Mrs. John Leusink, Sheldon; Henry and John Hymans of Hull.

She was taken ill seven weeks ago at her farm home east of Hull with flu and complications arose and she was removed to the Methodist hospital in Sioux City but passed away two weeks later on March 19. She was a member of the First Reformed church from which the funeral services were conducted by the pastor Rev. Mr. G. H. Douwstra on Friday, March 22. Burial was in the Hope cemetery.
