From the Sioux County Index (Hull), November 20, 1925:

Lucina Leusink Dies

The community was shocked again last week Thursday, when the news was passed around, that little Lucina Leusink, who was run over and injured several weeks ago, while on her way home from school, had died. She had been a patient at the Hull Hospital ever since the accident and apparently was getting along fine, but a sudden turn came and she passed away at about 7:30 o'clock that evening.

Lucina was nine years and nine months old at the time of her death, being born February 6, 1916. She was a very bright little Miss and a favorite with all who knew her. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Leusink, and three sisters, Mrs. Gerrit DeJong (Grace), Dora and Henrietta.

The sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved parents. Losing three children, within as many years, two of them by accidents, is surely a severe blow.

The funeral, one of the largest ever held in Hull, was held Monday, November 16, at the home and from the First Reformed church, Rev. G. H. Douwstra, the pastor, assisted by Rev. Chas. Stoppels, of the American Reformed church, officiating.

LITTLE GIRL SUCCUMBS TO HER INJURIES
Lucina Leusink Called Beyond After Brave Fight of Six Weeks Against Death

Lucina, aged 9 years and 10 months, the daughter of Mr. ad Mrs. H. Leusink of Hull, died Thursday, November 12th, at the Hull hospital after a six weeks fight to recover from injuries received when she was struck by the fender of a car while returning home from school three miles east of Hull on October 2nd. An operation was performed in a last resort to save her life but it was found that nothing could be done to prolong it or effect her recovery.

The little girl was of a happy disposition and a favorite with all and her death, after it was thought she had a possible chance to recover, comes as a shock to all. The death of their little daughter is all the more saddening because of the losses the family had already suffered. Three years ago last April the little four year old son died from diphtheria and the following June their son, a 16 year old lad, had an accident which caused his death when a tank of buttermilk tipped over, the horses became frightened, his skull was crushed. [Followed by the funeral and survivors.]

The accident was covered in the Sioux County Index, October 9, 1925. Her skull was badly crushed, her cheek bone broken, her face badly lacerated, and the bones in one of her legs were broken. The automobile, driven by a Mr. Hospers of Orange City, was not going fast, according to witnesses, and the incident was considered "entirely accidental."

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Leusink, Loucina Hendrina, b. 6 Feb 1916, d. 12 Nov 1925, dau HD & L., Hope Cem Hull IA.
