Evert Huizenga, a former helper in our depot, but who for the past four years has been agent at Scotland, S.D., passed away last Wednesday. He had just had an operation for tumor and had been out of the hospital for about two weeks. He had planned on taking a couple of weeks rest before going to work but he felt so well that he thought he would go right to work again, which he did. After he had been at work a few days he was taken with a severe pain in his head, which resulted in brain fever which caused his death. All that loving hands could do was done but of no avail. Evert was born at Lennox, S.D. April 12th 1888, where his father and sister still reside. His mother died when he was eleven years old and his sister did all that was in her power to help him through life, and was like a mother to him to the last. At the age of sixteen he entered the Academy at Orange City where he remained for three years, until he had a good chance to take up telegraphy. He has been an earnest student of telegraphy ever since and at the time of his death was recognized as an expert in his line. The funeral, which was not held until Monday on account of a friend from the west arriving then, was held at the M.E. church, which could not accommodate half of his friends. The Odd Fellows had charge of the services at the cemetery. He leaves an aged father, two sisters and a brother, besides a host of friends to mourn his lass. Those from here who attended the funeral were, Herman Follrich, Misses Amber and Neva Mackie and Mr. and Mrs. K.C. Sheldon.
