Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the First Reformed Church for Mrs. Gerrit J. Grotenhuis, nee Dena Kots, who died Saturday morning at the Ashton Convalescent Home, where she had been a patient for the past three years. Mrs. Grotenhuis was born in the Netherlands, February 7, 1869 and came to America with her parents when a young girl, settling near Orange City. She was married to Gerrit J. Grotenhuis in 1888.

They farmed near Newkirk for many years and later retired there and came to Orange City in 1918. Surviving are two sons: James of Tucson, Arizona and Ben of Orange City; and one sister, Mrs. Arie Punt of Orange City. Mr. Grotenhuis died in April of 1944; a daughter, Dena (Mrs. Simon Menning) died in 1940; a son, Rueben died in June 1959; one child died in infancy. There are 17 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren. Reverend R. Van Heukelom and Dr. H. Colenbrander were in charge of the services. Interment was made at Newkirk.
