Died: April 24, 2004

Henry Groen, age 73, died Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Memorial service will be 2 P.M., Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Netherlands Reformed Congregation, Rock Valley. Reverend G.M. Leeuw will officiate. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Visitation with family present will be from 6:30-8:30P.M., Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Building Fund.

Henry Marinus Groen was born August 17, 1930 to Cornelius and Agnes (Verhey) Groen in rural Sioux County, Iowa. On April 2, 1952, Henry married Pauline Vander Boon of Rock Valley. Henry served in the U.S. Army, 4th Infantry Division from May, 1952 to May, 1954.After his discharge from the Army, the couple farmed in the Rock Valley, Sheldon and Hospers area. They retired to Fairview, South Dakota in November of 1999. Henry was a lifelong member of the Netherlands Reformed Church Congregation, Rock Valley.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline; three daughters: Alice (Donald) Etler of Algona, Iowa, Janet Groen of Sheldon and Cheryl (Matthew) Schelling of Sioux Center; seven grandchildren; John and Michael Etler of Algona, Paul, Stanton, Sarah, Melinda and Allison Schelling of Sioux Center; two brothers: Clarence (Pearl) Groen of Steen, Minnesota and Paul (Angeline) Groen of Brookings, South Dakota; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Groen of Rock Valley, Lena (Adrian) Vlastuin of Rock Valley, Marie (Gerrit) Rozeboom of Ada, Missouri, Adriana (Tuenis) Rozeboom of Anthem, Arizona and Connie (Cornie) Boon of Pierson, Missouri; brothers-in-law: Orie (Laurena) Vander Boon, John (Margaret) Vander Boon, Abe (Sandy) Vander Boon all of Ada, Missouri, Cornie Van Veldhuizen of Inwood, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and her husband, Della and Wilfred Wallenburg; brother, John Groen; sisters-in-law: Pearl, Sarah Key and her husband, Jerry and Sybil Van Veldhuizen.
