Mrs. Etta Griffith, died at the Panska Nursing Home at Hawarden September 28th, 1961. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nanninga of Ireton, born June 7, 1882 at Hartsburg, Illinois. She came to Ireton with her parents and lived on a farm which they purchased in 1894. She suffered a stroke in May 1954, and was in the hospital for some time, then was taken to Panska Nursing Home, where she was a wheel chair patient.

In June 1913, she was married to James Albert Griffith. To this union three children were born namely, Russell, Robert and Warren. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1945. Her son Warren died in September 1954. She is survived by her two sons, Robert and Russell of Biloxi, Mississippi, six grandchildren, one brother Warren Nanninga of Sioux City, four sisters, Mrs. Grace Pereboom of Brookings, Mrs. Tena Cornish of Hawarden, Mrs. Cena VanderHamm of Sheldon, and Mrs. Hattie Vlotho of Ireton. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 30 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Ireton. The Reverend Paul Friedrich officiated. Casket bearers were all nephews, James McNally, Lloyd Nanninga, Lucian Cornish, Silas Seige, Walter Struck and Lloyd Simons. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Grace Pereboom of Brookings, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Van Hoeppen and Daun of Volga, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Bartley Ogden of Odebolt, Mrs. John White of Ida Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Al Horstman, Clarice and Clayton, Mrs. Christine Horstman of Paulina, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Albert and Miss Myrtle Dittmer of LeMars, Mrs. Harry Siders of Le Mars, Mrs. Harry Siders of Hartford, South Dakota, Mrs. Howard Steineke, Sioux Falls; Mrs. Cena VanderHamm, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carl, Dale Bronk of Sheldon, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Nanninga, Mrs. Richard Lloyd of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Seige of Maurice, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fett, Mrs. Leland Fett of Craig, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cornish, Mr. and Mrs. Lucian Cornish, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fressoln, Mrs. Dorothy Britzman, Mrs. A.D. Horton, Mrs. Ethel Gearhart of Hawarden.

Funeral services for Mrs. Etta Griffith, 79, Ireton , who died Thursday in a nursing home, were held at 2 P.M. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Griffith was born June 7, 1882, in Illinois and came to Ireton with her parents when a child. She was married to Al Griffith in 1913. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Robert and Russell, both of Biloxi, Mississippi; six grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Pereboom of Brookings, South Dakota, Mrs. Tina Cornish of Hawarden, Iowa, Mrs. Sena Vander Ham of Sheldon, Iowa, and Mrs. Hattie Vlotho of Ireton, and a brother, Warren Nanninga of Sioux City
