Bernard M. Grau, 71, of Le Mars, Iowa, died suddenly on Wednesday, January 4, 1995, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services were held on Saturday morning, January 7, 1995, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, the Reverend Larry Fett officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Bernard Milo Grau was born January 28, 1923, on the family farm near Ireton, Iowa, the son of Ora and Jennie (Brown) Grau. He was raised on the farm and graduated from Ireton High School, Class of 1940. Bernard served his country in the military during World War II. He and his parents operated a small private dairy, “B. Grau’s Dairy,” at Ireton for 14 years. Bernard was united in marriage to Genevieve Nash on June 18, 1950, in Luverne, Minnesota, and the couple lived in Ireton for many years. In 1956, Bernard and Genevieve moved to Le Mars, where he was employed with Sioux Tools for 30 years, retiring in 1986.

Mr. Grau was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion of Le Mars.

Survivors include his wife Genevieve of Le Mars, a daughter and son-in-law, Muriel Jean and Richard Miller of Le Mars; a son, Howard Allen Grau of Le Mars; three grandchildren, Sonya, Brant, and Justin Miller of Le Mars; two brothers and their wives, Robert Wendell and Phyllis Grau of Hemit, California and F. Elwood and Margaret Grau of Littleton, Colorado; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
