Mrs. Sandie Mars, age 66, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, February 1, at 11:00am, at the Trinity Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Robert De Boer will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Wednesday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the funeral home.

Sandie Jo was born on February 6, 1950, in Le Mars, the daughter of Gary and Mary (Overman) Van Den Berg. She was raised in Sioux Center, where she graduated from high school. She also attended the Le Mars Beauty College and was then a beautician at a salon in Sioux Center.

On August 15, 1969, she married Jerry Dwane Mars at the Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. They lived in Kansas for a year and then spent five years in North Richland Hills, Texas, where she was employed by Motorola. They then settled in Orange City, where she worked at K-Products for four years and at the Dutch Colony Inn for seventeen years.

Mrs. Mars was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church. She enjoyed boating, reading, solving word puzzles, swimming, watching her grandchildren playing ball games, and watching movies with friends.

Survivors include her husband of more than 47 years; two daughters and their husbands, Becky and Kirk “Maazy” Maasdam and Stephanie and Jason Pottebaum, all of Orange City; five grandchildren, Brody Pottebaum, Blake Pottebaum, Josie Maasdam, Levi Maasdam, and Dylan Maasdam; and her mother, Mary Van Den Berg, of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Memorials may be directed to cancer research.
