MICHAEL A. GOERGEN --AUTO ACCIDENT VICTIM

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 A.M. in St. Joseph’s Church, Granville, for Michael A. Goergen, 78, prominent retired farmer of the Granville vicinity who was killed instantly in an auto accident shortly before noon Tuesday on a country road 1 ½ miles north and ¾ mile east of Granville near his farm.

Sheriff Harry Dykstra and Patrolman George Dunn, who investigated the accident, said the auto apparently hit a sharp object which punctured a tire and caused Mr. Goergen to lose control. He died of a broken neck.

Surviving him are five sons and a daughter. They are: Joseph N., Leo, and Raymond of Granville; Otto of Des Moines; and Ann (Mrs. Marcel Klein) of Granville. His brother, Math. M., of Los Angeles, California and two sisters, Mrs. Nic Schleich of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Elizabeth Hoefler of Granville, also survived him, along with 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two sons, Ernest and Emil.

This was Sioux County’s 3rd automobile fatality this year. There were no witnesses to the accident.

Note: His parents were Theodore and Elizabeth (Larrosch) Goergen and he married Susan M. Schumacher on February 7, 1910 in Granville. She died 1948.
