MILITARY HONORS FOR MARTIN GOERGEN FUNERAL SATURDAY

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Granville, Saturday morning May 4 at 10:00 o’clock. Reverend N.J. Becker, officiating at the Requiem Mass for , for Martin M. Goergen, former proprietor of the bowling alley in Granville, who died suddenly of coronary thrombosis at the home of his sister, Mrs. Margaret Roetzel at Worthington, Minnesota Wednesday morning, May 1 at 6:00 o’clock at the age of 45 years, 10 months and 3 days.

Martin Goergen was born on June 29, 1911 at Granville, son of Frank and Elizabeth (Diederich) Goergen and resided here all his life, except from early 1941 until in November 1945, which he spent in service in the 32nd Infantry Division in World War II.

He was active in all the community affairs, was a 25 year member of the C.O.F., member of the K. of C‘s, American Legion and V.F.W. Posts and was a past commander of each local post. Full military honors were accorded at his funeral.

Pallbearers were cousins. Alois Jonas of Anthon, Julius Goergen of Remsen, Norbert Goergen, Joe N. Goergen, Arnold Hoefler and Lawrence Spieler of Granville.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Foresters and K. of C’s namely Charles Klein, Clarence Kreber, Milo Koob, Felix Dreckman, Marvin Thelen, Ambrose Holles. Interment was made in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home.

He is survived by two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Margaret Roetzel, (Virginia), Mrs. Robert Harens of Worthington, Minnesota, Joseph T. Goergen and Paul Goergen of Granville and a sister-in-law Mrs. Mathilda Goergen of Remsen.

Relatives attending from out-of-town were Reverend Cecil Friedman of Le Mars, Mrs. Catherine Friedman and Veronica, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Friedman, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jonas, Alois Jonas, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hastert, Mr. and Mrs. Don Schneider, all of Alton, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jonas, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Martin Spieler, Julius Goergen of Remsen, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Spieler of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Kriebs, Mrs. Margaret Stuffel of Adrain, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gleis of Lismore, Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schuetz of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Goergen of Blue Earth, Minnesota and many other relatives and friends from various places.
