Mrs. Joseph T. (Martha) Goergen,81, of Granville, passed away Sunday, July 7, 1996 at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 10, at 10:30 A.M., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville. Reverend Clem Currans officiated. Interment was in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Granville under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Martha was born July 29, 1914 at rural Granville, the daughter of Nick and Catherine (Hoffmann) Stoffel. She was raised and educated in the Granville area. Martha married Joseph T.Goergen June 14, 1938 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. They made their home in Granville. Joseph died March 29, 1959.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Church Guild, Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include five sons: Francis and wife, Kathy; Greg and wife, Mary, all of Omaha, Nebraska; Dominic of Saginaw, Michigan; Florian of Emmetsburg; Aloy of Sioux City; five daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Mary) O’Rourke of Bloomington, Minnesota; Agnes and her husband, Jerry Klein, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Veronica and her husband, Les Robertson of Mountain Home, Idaho, Gertie and husband, Ron Chapman, of Paullina; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Stoffel and wife, Olga, of Woodville, Wisconsin and Andy Stoffel of Arizona; and three sisters, Elsie and her husband, Dick Carney, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Agnes and husband, Henry Kritzer of Sioux City; Mrs. Marvin (Octavia) Weiler of Remsen.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son-in-law, Bernard O’Rourke; and three brothers, Florian, Jack and Nick Stoffel Jr.
