MRS GOERGEN SURVIVED BY SIX CHILDREN--BELOVED GRANVILLE PIONEER MOTHER PASSES TO LAST REST

Mrs. Elizabeth Goergen, old time settler of the Granville vicinity, passed away Thursday morning at her home after an illness of almost a year, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 3 days.

Elizabeth Larrosch was born at Beffelt, Luxemburg, Europe, August 30, 1848. She was the only living daughter of Dominic and Elizabeth Larrosch. In the year 1870 she married Theodore Goergen and in 1872 with their first child and Mrs. Goergen’s parents, they came to this country, settling at Caledonia, Minnesota, where they lived for two years then coming to Alton, Iowa, where they resided several years. Later they moved to Marcus and in 1889 moved to their place in O’Brien County. In 1910 Mrs. Goergen moved to Granville where she resided until her death, with the exception of a few years which she spent in Montana with her children. Her husband died in 1905.

To this union eleven children were born. Five preceded her in death namely, (Mary) Mrs. Joe Hoefler who died in 1906, Veronica in 1906 and Dominic in 1922; the other two died in infancy, Anthony and Alexander. The surviving children are: Frank, Mike, Matt, Jake, Mrs. Ben Hoefler, Mrs. Nick Schleich all of Granville, 36 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Goergen was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church here and she was a member of the Christian Mother Society for 20 years.

Funeral services were held in St. Joseph’s Church Saturday morning at 9 clock. Interment took place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with Reverend J.A. Gerlemann officiating. Pallbearers were six grandsons Joe N. Goergen, Joe T. Goergen, Louis, Julius, and Theodore Goergen and Anthony Hoefler.
