Henry Goebel, Sr., a pioneer of Iowa, died at his home north of Granville on January 10, 1924 from the aliments due to his age and from pneumonia. His wife mate died just three weeks before. They were united in life and inseparable companion throughout, having been married 62 years last July and one of the oldest married couples in this section of the county. On July 2, 1911, they with their family and friends celebrated their golden wedding.

Deceased was born April 15, 1838 in Gerberhanen, Saxony, Germany. He was married at New Vienna, Iowa to Catherine Heying. Father Ort officiating. Of a family of eight, Mrs. Goebel is survived by one sister, Mrs. Weissmann of New Vienna and her seven children 37 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren

He was well known throughout these parts having been an old settler moving to the Granville vicinity 32 years ago and witnessing the growth of this vicinity into a prosperous country. Mr. Goebel was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s parish and ever ready to help with a good cause.

The funeral was held from that church on January 12th at 9:30 A.M., burial taking place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, where he was laid to rest beside his beloved wife to whom he was united so long in life, waiting the judgment day.
