John A. Goebel, 96, of Granville, died Sunday in the Le Mars Hospital after a brief illness.

Services were at 10:30A.M. Wednesday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville. The Reverend Andrew Hoffmann officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph’s Cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Mr. Goebel was born July 16, 1886, in Luxemburg, Iowa. He came to Granville area with his parents at the age of five. He was a rural mail carrier from 1909 until 1917.

He married Martha A. Bernard February 5, 1918 in Granville. They farmed in the Granville area, retired in 1957 and moved into town in 1962. He had resided at Happy Siesta Retirement Home since November 6, 1980.

Survivors include his wife; six sons, Magnus, Linus and Gerald, all of Granville, Odilo of Worthington, Minnesota, Firmin of Rushmore, Minnesota, and Ivan of San Leandro, California; four daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Joan) Loutsch of Le Mars, Mrs. Lawrence (Arleen) McDermott of Kingsley, Mrs. Peter (Vivian) Homan of Remsen and Mrs. Thomas (Mary) Murphy of Cherokee; 61 grandchildren, and 73 great-grandchildren.
