ST. MARY’S FUNERAL FOR MRS. GOEBEL ON MONDAY

Mrs. Louis T. Goebel, a beloved resident of Alton since her marriage and member of a pioneer Alton family died at 4:00 A.M. October 9th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A.D. Barnum Jr. in Sioux City.

An invalid for several years, Mrs. Goebel had a stroke three weeks ago and had since been paralyzed and unable to talk or move, through perfectly conscious. She had been living with her daughter since the sudden death of Mr. Goebel last October 15th. Preceding the lack she appeared to be in fair health.

Marie Leverman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Leverman, was born in Alton, May 4, 1889, but at the age of 8 years moved with her family to Aumsville in Williamette Valley of Oregon.

In 1910 she was married to Louis T. Goebel of Alton and the couple settled in Alton, where their five children were born. The children are Merlin of Corpus Christi, Texas; Marvin of Portland, Oregon; Junille, Mrs. William Fokken, Kingsley, Iowa; Luella, Mrs. A.D. Barnum Jr. Sioux City; and Audrey, Mrs. Lorne Heidesch, Remsen. Also surviving are ten grandchildren. Two grandchildren, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Heidesch, are deceased.

Three sisters and a brother survive Mrs. Goebel. They are Mrs. Ray (Till) Barnard, Cheney, Washington; Mrs. James (Katherine) Thomson and Miss Anne Leverman, Portland; Tony Leverman, Aumsville, Oregon. A brother, Henry Leverman, preceded her in death.

The body was brought to the Allen Funeral Home where rosary was said Sunday, and funeral services were held Monday at 9:30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in charge of Reverend Z. Reising.

A devoted mother, kind neighbor and friend, and some years a faithful assistant to her husband in his grocery business here. Mrs. Goebel was loved by all who knew her. Always friendly and cheerful, she continued to show remarkable courage after stricken by the serious illness which after several years proved fatal.

Both sons and the three daughters and their families were here for the service, with dinner following at the home of Miss Viola Mae and M.J. Goebel.
