Sam Zigtema, 44 Buried Monday

Funeral services for Sam Zigtema, 44, were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Reformed Church here with Rev. R. Van Heukelom officiating. Military rites and burial were held in the West Lawn cemetery under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home of Orange City.Pallbearers were Stanley De Haan, Alfred Van Meeveren, Arlo Neumann, Larry Royer, Roy Vander Stoep, and Arnold Streff.
Mr. Zigtema died Saturday at eh Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, So. Dak. He was born on Nov. 9, 1922, at Orange City. A veteran of World War II, he was wounded on Iwo Jima in Feb. 1945. The injury parlayzed his legs and he was confined to a wheelchair for his remaining 22 years. He married Bernadine Caffrey at Glenwood, Minn., Aug. 6, 1951. He remained active in spite of wheelchair confinement and engaged in a variety of occupations.
Survivors include the widow, three brothers, Barney and Walter of Orange City, and Raymond of White, S.D.; and five sisters, Mrs. Fred Vogelsang of Rock Valley, Iowa, Mrs. Gerrit Roghair of Lakewood, Calif., Mrs. Henry Roghair of Hawarden Ia., Mrs. James Rozeboom of Rock Rapids, Ia., and Mrs. Eddie Roos of Harlan, Ia.
