Mrs. Bette Marra, age 83, of Hull, passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at the Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

There will be a funeral service on Monday, January 9, at 3:00pm, at the First Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Carl Klompien will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Following the interment, visitation with the family will be during the lunch at the church.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Bette Joan was born on August 24, 1933, at Sheldon, the daughter of John and Nellie (Boer) Kamies. She was raised at Sheldon, where she attended the public school. She then worked as a waitress.

On April 28, 1954, she married Thane Rodney Marra in Sheldon. After a year in Sheldon, they made their home in Hull. She was an Avon representative, a clerk at the Handy Grocery, an Electrolux saleslady, a mail supervisor at the Foreign Candy Company, and a nurse’s aide at the Pleasant Acres Care Center, all in Hull. Thane passed away on March 23, 2005, in Hull.

On November 7 of last year, she entered Pleasant Acres for therapy.

Mrs. Marra was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she belonged to the Mission Guild and care groups. She also served as a substitute teacher in Sunday school.

She enjoyed attending the sports events of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, boating, camping with her family and friends, cooking, fishing, shopping with her daughters, and watching sports on television. Most important to her was spending time with her family and with the children at her daughter’s day care facility.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Randall Keith and Kathy Marra; and two daughters and their husbands, Barbara Lynn and Randall Draayer, and Brenda Yvonne and Gary Anderson, all of Hull; eleven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; a sister and her husband, Lyle and Faye Shaw, of Hutchinson, Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Gary Van Surksum, of Sioux Falls; a sister-in-law, Donna Kamies, of Sheldon; and Thane’s family, two brothers, Warren Marra, and his wife, Diane, of Sioux Center; and Wayne Marra, of Orange City; and a sister-in-law, Diana Marra, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Dale Marra; a grandson, Brent James Marra; a brother, John Kamies, Jr.; a sister, Ann Van Surksum; her mother-in-law, Evelyn Marra; two brothers-in-law, Eugene Marra and Clarence De Vries; and a sister-in-law, Mick Marra.
