Sidney Jongma, 83 of Sioux City entered eternal rest on Friday, January 13, 2017.
Funeral service will be held 10:30am Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the Waterbury Funeral Service, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will follow at Hospers Cemetery in Hospers, Iowa, with Military Rites provided by the United States Army. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
He was born November 20, 1933 in Orange City, IA., the son of Klaas and Marie (Goslinga) Jongma. He attended country school near Hospers, IA. Sidney and Noreen Reit were married September 9, 1955 in Hull, IA. He served in the US Army from 1955-1957. He enjoyed being on the farm and was employed as a farmer and drove truck for many years.
His greatest love was his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that he loved to tease and joke around with. He took great pride in his garden, and was very particular about straight rows! He enjoyed “tinkering” in his shed, listening to Polka Music and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Sidney is survived by his wife, Noreen, children Dwayne and his wife Mary of Brunsville, IA, Dee and Bert Shoumaker of Lawton, IA, Darla and Jim Montgomery of Marshalltown, IA, Deanne Adams of Rock Rapids, IA and Denise and Don Monroe of Sioux City. Grandchildren, Molly (Dan) Carpenter of Brunsville, IA, Zachary Jongma of Hinton, IA. Justin Helget of Omaha, NE, BJ (Sarah) Shoumaker of Sioux City, IA, Rachel Shoumaker and Jonathan Shoumaker of Lawton, IA, Krissy Viorla of Chesapeake, VA and Derek (Vanessa) Jongma of Marshalltown, IA, Troy Adams and Jessica (Wayne) Pollard of Sioux City, Megan (Rob) Bell of Salina, KS and Lindsey Monroe and Mallorie Monroe of Sioux City, Great Grandchildren, Joseph, Carson, Hannah, Lydia, Derrius, Rylen, Ava, Axton, Izaiah, Sophia. Ayden and Khloe. Brothers Stan (Jodene) Jongma of Spencer, IA, John (Alice) Jongma of Hawarden, sisters Anna (Norm) Schaap of Sioux Center, IA, Clarine (Delmar) Van Klompenburg of Maurice, IA and Esther (Jim) Jones of Sioux City, a sister in law, Carmen Jongma of Augusta, GA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents,two brothers; Henry and Marvin and his wife Myra, Great Grandson; Maxwell Viorla, son in law; Tony Adams and grandson in law; Todd Viorla.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
