Duane Gergen, 50, of Slayton, Minnesota, formerly of Alton, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 2, 1995 at his home near Slayton.

Services were held at 10:30AmM. Saturday, April 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. The Reverend Ronald J. Reicks of Alton and the Reverend Clem Currans of Granville concelebrated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Duane was born September 12, 1944 in rural Alton, the son of Vincent and Bernice (Probst) Gergen. He was raised and educated in the Alton area. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Alton in 1962. He then attended Northwest Iowa Technical School at Sheldon, graduating in 1963 with a degree in refrigeration and air conditioning. He then moved to Buena Park, California, where he operated his own business called Duane’s Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of Company A National Guard at Le Mars and was activated during the Vietnam War. In March of 1992 he moved to near Slayton, Minnesota, where he farmed. Mr. Gerben was an avid bowler.

Survivors include his mother, Bernice of Alton; two brothers and their wives, Marvin and Mary Gergen of San Diego, California, and Randy and Deb of Granville; a sister, Shirley and her husband Jerry Goebel of Mesa, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent Gergen; and paternal and maternal grandparents.

Pallbearers were Marc, Mike, Nic, and Rick Gergen; and Doug, Gary, and Klein Goebel,
