MARIE GERDES ANSWERS CALL--PASSED AWAY LAST THURSDAY AT HOME NEAR IRETON--WAS49 YEARS OF AGE AND MADE HER HOME IN HAWARDEN FOR 18 YEARS--SURVIVED BY TWO SISTERS

Miss Marie Gerdes passed away at 3:15 last Thursday afternoon at her home near Ireton following a lingering illness. Miss Gerdes was a patient for a time at the Hawarden Hospital last fall and after she returned home she was bed fast.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church in Hawarden at 2:30 Sunday afternoon with Reverend George Steinkamp in charge. Interment was made in the family plot in Ireton.

Marie Gerdes was born at Nokomis, Illinois, April 18, 1884. When but three days old she was baptized into the Christian faith. At the age of four she moved with her parents to the farm, four miles southeast of Ireton. On April 3,1898, she was confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton by Reverend Hugo Grimm. After the death of her mother in 1913, the family moved to Hawarden where they made their home until the fall of 1931, when with her two sisters she moved back to the farm, southeast of Ireton. It was there that death came to relieve the patient sufferer from a long and losing battle with a complications of disease. The time of her pilgrimage was 49 year, 8 months and 25 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and a brother, John, who died in 1930 and another brother, George, who together with his wife passed out of this life in 1931. Two sisters, Hattie and Rebecca, survive to mourn the loss of one who will be greatly missed not only in the diminishing family circle but also by all who knew her.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the two sisters in their bereavement.
