Peter “Bob” Zevenbergen

Peter W. Zevenbergen, age 67, of Alton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital after an illness of several weeks.
Peter Wayne, who was known as "Bob," was born June 16, 1921 at Alton, the son of Peter Zevenbergen and Hattie Van Oort Zevenbergen. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
On Jan. 23, 1945 he married Wilma Joyce Kuyper at Hospers. They made their home in Alton. Bob was a diesel mechanic for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 23 years, retiring in December of 1985. He was a member of the Alton Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder. He also belonged to Floyd Post 200 of the American Legion in Alton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Peter of Cedar Rapids, and Keith and his wife Diane of Sioux City; daughter, Holly and her husband David Drees of Spencer; five
grandchildren; and brother, Julius and sister, Mrs. Gilbert (Adrianna) Van Wyk, both of Bellflower, Calif.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Steven, and an infant brother, Kenneth. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 22 at the Alton Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Rick Kargard and Robert Vander Schaaf officiating. Interment followed at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton, with a flag presentation by the American Legion. Arrangements were with the Van Etten-Oolman-Van Gelder Funeral Home of Orange City.
