Mrs. Gertrude Zevenbergen, 91, died Friday evening at the Orange City Municipal Hospital, following a brief illness. Services were held Monday, Nov. 18 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Reformed Church, Orange City. Rev. Cecil Martens officiated. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Van Gelder Funeral Home.
Mrs. Zevenbergen was born Oct. 11, 1894 at Orange, City, the daughter of Martin and Hendrika (Jongewaard) Raak. She was married to James Zevenbergen on January 26, 1927 at Orange City. He preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 1974. The couple farmed in Sioux County until retiring and moving to Orange City in 1957 and then later moving to Alton.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Carol) Van Gelder of Orange City and Mrs. Paul (Lois) Stander of Alton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Arie Raak of Orange City.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Vander Wilt, Dirkie Raak, and Mrs. Dena Mieras; and two brothers, Gerrit and Peter Raak.
