Peter Zevenbergen, Sr.

Peter Zevenbergen, Sr., age 89 of Alton, passed away Saturday at the Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. Peter was born Nov. 28,1888, in the Netherlands, the son of Julius and Adrianna Zevenbergen. He came to this country at the age of four. His family settled near Middleburg.
He married Hattie Van Oort on April 20, 1911, at Middleburg. They farmed in the Sibley and Carnes areas. In 1935, they moved to LeMars. They retired to Alton in 1956. Last June, both of them became residents of Valley Manor in Rock Valley.
Mr. Zevenbergen is survived by his wife; two sons, Peter (Bob), of Alton, and Julius; one daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Adrianna) Van Wyk, both of Bellflower, California; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; five brothers, Arie, Gerrit, and Julius, all of the Sibley area, and Luke and Ike, both of Worthington, Minnesota; and two sisters, Mrs. Neal (Johanna) De Witt, of Sioux Center, and Mrs. Tunis (Agnes) Bras, of Sibley.
He was a member of the Alton Reformed Church. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, at the Alton Reformed Church. The Rev. Clarence Greving officiated. Interment was at the Nassau Township Cemetery, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
