Donald J. Gaul, 84, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, following a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars with Reverend Kevin Richter officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 of Le Mars will be at Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 4:00 p.m. Rosary Service followed by a 7:00 p.m. Scriptural Wake Service Friday evening. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Donald John Gaul was born November 14, 1926 at Granville, Iowa, the son of Nick and Antonette (Haupert) Gaul. He grew up at Granville and received his education from St. Mary's Parochial School in Alton. Don served his country with the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. On May 1, 1951, he married Vera Mae Hellman at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Le Mars and to this union five children were born. Don was employed for many years driving truck for International Multifoods.

Don was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and the American Legion, Wasmer Post #241, in Le Mars.

Survivors include his wife Vera Gaul of Le Mars; three children: LaDonna High and her husband Ed of Otho, Iowa, Fritz Gaul and his wife Sharon of Le Mars, and Bernie Ibanez and her husband Bob of Le Mars; six grandsons: John Dorr, Nick Dorr and his wife Karen, Chris Dorr, Zack Gaul, Rob Gaul, and Andy Ibanez and his wife Kim; a granddaughter, Carrie Ibanez; three great grandchildren; two brothers and their wives: Joe and Linda Gaul of Gladstone, Missouri, and John and Nancy Gaul of Independence, Iowa; two sisters: Delores Penning of Omaha, Nebraska, and Shirley Henshaw and her husband Dick of Park Rapids, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Pat Gaul and Larry Gaul; two sisters: Helen Fischer and Audrey Hibbing; a brother, Jim Gaul; a brother-in-law, Jerome Hellman; and a sister-in-law, Madonna Hellman.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
