Died: February 24, 1945

Corporal Isidore Gaspar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Gaspar of Dell Rapids, South Dakota (former resident of the Alton-Granville vicinity) has been reported killed in action in Germany.

Notice of his death was received Thursday, March 8th, the telegram stating that he had been killed February 24th.

Memorial services were held Monday, March 12, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Huntimer, South Dakota. Reverend James Reily had charge of the services.

Corporal Gaspar was born and grew to manhood at Miller, South Dakota and was engaged in operating a farm there when called to service, March 6th.

He went overseas in December of 1943 and was a member of the Combat Engineers in General Patton’s 3rd Army. Besides his parents, Corporal Gaspar is survived by four brothers and five sisters. He has numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins in this vicinity, several of whom attended the memorial services, including Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gaspar of Granville, Miss Lucy Gaspar of Sutherland, Mike Gaspar and the Misses Mary and Susan Gaspar of Alton.
