John Van Der Hout Services Held Friday, July 19
John Van der Hout was born at Schravenzanden, The Netherlands, on Dec 27, 1873 and died, at Rock Valley July 17, at the age of 83 years , He was the last remaining member of a family of 16 of whom ,two. came to America. He came to the United States in 1914 and made his first home at Boyden. He helped in the construction of the Boyden Reformed church building and served for 31 years as janitor of that church. He also served for 10 years, as night watchman in Boyden.
He was married Sept.1, 1905 to Margaret Vlasblom. Two daughters were born to this union Cora; Mrs. Sam Ver Hoef of Rock Valley; Lena, Mrs. John Rensink of Boyden. His wife preceded him in death in January 1945. His brother, Arie Van der Hout, also died in 1945.
For the past 12 years Mr. Van der Hout made his home in Rock Valley, living at the Sam Ver Hoef home. He is survived by his two daughters and five grand children. Mr. Van der Hout was a member of the First Reformed church of Rock Valley at the time of his death. He had recently received a publication listing the record of the Van der Hout family with membership in the Reformed church in The Netherlands since the late 16th century. He was an ardent reader and had spent the last years of his retirement reading and gardening.

Funeral services were held at the Vander Ploeg Funeral home in Rock Valley, Friday at 1:30 and 2 p. m. at the First Reformed church with Rev. A. A. Dykstra officiating. His body was laid to rest in the family lot at Boyden.

Pall bearers were: Ed Jouwstra, Steve Vander Well, Ted Feekes, Pete Henynen, Job De Jong and Peter De Boe. Music for the service was by Mrs. George Van Beek at the organ and Mrs. Ted J. Feekes as soloist.
