From the Alton Democrat, September 3, 1921: Carmel news:

OBITUARY

Mrs. Jantje Wolfswinkel, wife of Brennis Wolfswinkel, was called upon unexpectedly to leave loved ones of earth last Monday morning, Aug. 29th, 1921. She departed this life in peace. Her maiden name was Miss Jantje Weenschoten and [she] came to this country about thirty-five years ago. Later she married Mr. Wolfswinkel who mourns her departure. She had lived in this community for about forty-six years. After the couple were married they lived near Rock Valley but for many years have lived on the farm where she died.

The family were members of the First Reformed church of Carmel. Mrs. Wolfswinkel was a quiet home making wife and mother; an old fashioned Dutch lady respected by all who knew her and made the most of life in her eighty-one years of honored womanhood.

The funeral took place at Carmel Thursday and she was interred at the local cemetery. In the absence of the pastor the Rev. DePree had charge of the funeral services.
