An 87 year old man was found dead Friday afternoon in the house here which he occupied alone. William Stephens was found dead by Mrs. Walter McNamara, sister-in-law of the dead man's only child. Mrs. Francis McNamara.

Funeral services were held Monday at the St. Mary's Catholic church here. Rev. Edward Hoffmann officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rosary was at 8:00 p. m. Sunday at the Vander Ploeg funeral home. Mr. Stephens was born Jan. 5, 1870, at Innistea, Kilmore-Errin,Ireland. He came to the United States at the age of eight years with his parents. The family first settled for three years in Wisconsin. Then they moved to Sioux County and Mr. Stephens farmed in that area most of his life. He moved to Rock Valley about 38 years ago. His wife, the former Kate Sullivan, preceded him in death. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church here. The daughter and two grandchildren survive. Attending the funeral were Miss Laura Walpole of Mason City, a niece, and James Walpole Sioux City, a nephew and Frank Doherty of Sheldon.
Pallbearers were; Walter Mcamara, John Cullinan. Joe Hevern, Emmett Scanlan, Tom McGill and Hein Kosters.
