Clarence Walter French, 67, a resident of Hawarden all his life, died suddenly from a heart attack Saturday in the lobby of the Gladstone Hotel.

A son of Mr. and Mrs. Bayard Taylor French, he was born in Hawarden December 7, 1887.

When only 3 years old he suffered a severe attack of scarlet fever, a disease which was fatal to his baby sister, Helen. While in high school he suffered a sun-stroke in a hay field on one of the French farms and was hospitalized for one year.

Later he attended Iowa State College in Ames. Early in December of the same year he was taken ill and again hospitalized for a year.

He made his home with his parents, but on August 29, 1939, he made his home at the Gladstone Hotel.

For 46 consecutive years he had gone to San Antonia, Texas, for the winter. Mr. French never married.

Funeral services were held at the Associated Church at 2 P.M. Monday with Reverend John C. Thorus officiating. Burial was in the French lot at Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home.

He is survived by two brothers, the elder being Leslie Ray French of the Queal Lumber Company in Des Moines and Sherman Queal French of Hawarden.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. French of Des Moines; Mrs. Courtney Slife of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Dr. and Mrs. Bayard Taylor French of Hibbing, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Wendell P. French of Algona, and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert French of Rossi, Iowa.
