Mr. Ronald Van Ginkel, age 71, of Alton, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, December 6, at 3:00pm, at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Robert Drenten will officiate. There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, at 1:30pm, at the Richland Cemetery, near Inwood. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Ronald Harlan was born on November 26, 1945, in Canton, South Dakota, the son of Everett and Hermina (Veldman) Van Ginkel. He was raised in Inwood, where he graduated from high school, after which he served in the United States Air National Guard.

On December 29, 1971, he married Jacquelyn Rae Timmer in Pease, Minnesota. They made their home in Inwood until 1983, when they moved to Orange City. In 1988, they moved to Maurice. After 34 years, their marriage ended.

In 2005, Ron moved to Alton and has lived there since. He loved the small town atmosphere and was close with his neighbors.

In his vocational career, he was mainly a truck driver, but he also did custom farming.

Mr. Van Ginkel was a member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, and he enjoyed visiting with people, especially over a cup of coffee. He was always willing to help others and loved a good conversation. He especially enjoyed his eight grandchildren.

Survivors include his son and his wife, Chris and Heidi Van Ginkel, of Sioux Center; two daughters and their husbands, Gina and Michael De Boer, of Sioux Center; and Jessica and Forrest Cavale, of Visalia, California; eight grandchildren, Caleb, Ethan, and Alexis Van Ginkel; Kylie, Carter, and Camden De Boer; and Finn and Beck Cavale; two sisters, Bonnie Burgers, of Lester; Gloria, and her husband, Don Dickmann, of Grandville, Michigan; two brothers and their wives, Kim and Lisa Van Ginkel, of Inwood; and Scott and Amy Van Ginkel, of Sioux Falls; a sister-in-law, Mary Van Ginkel, of Inwood; and several nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Van Ginkel; and a brother-in-law, John Burgers.

Memorials may be directed to the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church.
