From the Rock Valley Bee, August 5, 1921:

FATAL AUTO ACCIDENT NEAR ALTON SUNDAY

Peter Remacle, aged 35 years, died at a Le Mars hospital on Sunday afternoon from injuries he received in an automobile accident a few hours earlier in the day. He was found in the road about a mile east of Alton, in a dying condition and was hurried to the hospital at Le Mars were he died without regaining consciousness. He was found lying near his car which was overturned.

Remacle was employed on a farm near Alton and left on Sunday morning for Alton to attend church. It is not known how the accident happened. His body was badly crushed, several ribs were broken and his lungs and bowels perforated. There also was a bad cut in the back of his head.

Remacle has two brothers, John Remacle living in Hospers and Joseph living on a farm near that place and a brother living in Oklahoma. A sister Mrs. Nick Blonck lives in Hospers. The remains were shipped to Hospers where the funeral was held.

A similar article was published in the Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, August 2, 1921. It adds that he and his employer, Mr. Hansen, had left in separate cars to attend church. "A report was current that he was racing with another car, but this was not verified."

A shorter article in the Hawarden Independent says he was a native of Luxembourg and was working as a farm hand on the Nic Hansen farm near Alton. His car turned over while rounding a sharp turn one mile east of Alton.
