From the Rock Valley Bee, July 29, 1921:

FORMER RESIDENT DEAD

Mrs. Henry Sterken died at her home in Sheldon, Wednesday, July 20, after a brief illness, aged 49 years and 8 months. The Sterken family lived northwest of Rock Valley for a number of years before moving to Sheldon a few years ago., and are well known in this vicinity.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Sterken leaves to mourn her death, six children. The oldest, Mrs. C. A. Bonthuis, lives at Hills, Minn. The other children are at home. She also leaves four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Fred DeJong of Rock Valley, Mrs. A. Lantenga, Mrs. G. Wierkamp, Mrs. Bleeker, and H. Poortier, of Bemis, S.D. All of whom were present at the funeral, which was held at Sheldon Saturday.

Other relatives who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sterken of Waupun, Wis., Fred Smits and family of Rock Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Fred DeJong, of Rock Valley, Mr. and Mrs. G. Lantinga and Mrs. G. Te Kroney of Bemis, S.D. The funeral was largely attended and many beautiful floral offerings were in evidence. The deceased will be greatly missed in her home as well as by her many friends and relatives.
