Robert John Finnie, 73, former Hawarden resident, died unexpectedly pf a cerebral hemorrhage Friday after taking ill at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Larry Kennedy at Early, Iowa. He was there on a visit from Cheyenne, Wyoming and had attended a family reunion in Sioux City the preceding Sunday.

Funeral services were held in the Associated Church Monday afternoon. Reverend John C. Thorns officiating. Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr. sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Lord’s Prayer,” accompanied by Mrs. Hal Shoemaker organist. Pallbearers were Fred Vernon, Carl Olson, Fred Dawson, Guy Venard, Charles Miller and Lee Keehn. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral Home.

Mr. Finnie was born December 20, 1883, in Union County, South Dakota, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Finnie. He was united in marriage with Lulu Olson in September 1909. Following their marriage they moved near Lemmons, South Dakota, where they located on a claim. Here they lived for two years and then returned to this vicinity and farmed for a number of years northwest of Hawarden. They moved to Hawarden.

He is survived by five children, Theodore, Inez, Gene, Harriet and Lois. A sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones in their hour of sorrow.
