McKeegan, Cloy Fey 1897-1965

Cloy Fey McKeegan was born at Rock Valley, Iowa on July 3, 1987 and died of cancer at the Sioux Center hospital on Friday of last week. He was the oldest son of John and Alvina Diehl McKeegan.

Mr. McKeegan was a graduate of the Rock Valley high school and held a B. S. degree from Iowa State University. He served as a wireless operator in the U.S. Navy during World War I.

Following the war he worked for a time at Western Electric in Chicago and for Louden Manufacturers at Fairfield, Iowa. In 1926 he moved with his family to a farm near Rock Valley and engaged in farming in this community until his retirement two years ago when he moved into Rock Valley.

In conjunction with his farming Mr. McKeegan worked for the Agricultural Adjustment Association and for the Pioneer Seed Corn Company.

He was a member of the Lyon County Farm Bureau, serving as its president and also as a member of the State Resolutions Committee.

Mr. McKeegan was chairman of the Lyon County Conversation Commission for several years and was an officer on the board of the Farmers' Elevator at Rock Valley. He was active in the Farrar-Fox post of the American Legion.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. C. Rheinhart on Monday, August 9. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery with military rites by the local posts of the American Legion and V.F.W.

The Porter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Berer were Elmer Boon, Harry Buma, Emmet Scanlan, Clarence Keegan, Walter McNamara and Paul Collenbaugh.

He is survived by the widow, the former Rillia Levens of Alvord, by a daughter Margaret, Mrs. C. K. Whitechair of East Lansing, Michigan, by a son James of Elmhurst, Ill. and by seven grandchildren.

A brother Stanley of Rock Valley and two sisters, Mrs. M. E. Schirmer of Sioux Falls and Miss Ethel McKeegan of Rock Valley also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James.
