Hawarden, Iowa ~ Charles Richard Bauder, 86, of Hawarden passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 3, at Oakhill Assisted Living where he resided since 2014.
   Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at the Peace Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Center, with Rev. Glen Peterson officiating. Burial and military rites will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa.    Charles was the first child of Clarence and Alpha Bauder and was welcomed into the world on February 21, 1930 in Hudson, South Dakota. He was baptized, confirmed, and remained a lifelong member of the Peace Lutheran Church. Charles grew up on the family farm 10 miles northeast of Hawarden and attended rural school. He went on to graduate from Hudson High School in 1950. Charles honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Following his military service, he returned to the family farm and remained a farmer until his retirement. Charles was always active in the American Legion and a member of the Bergstrom Bodeen Post #128 for over 60 years where he served in many offices including post commander.
   Charles never married, instead remaining on the family farm, a lifestyle he very much loved. On his time off he enjoyed the great outdoors and most of all numerous fishing trips near and far with his dear friends Bob Lind and Harold Moeller.
   Grateful to have been part of his life are one surviving sister, Connie (Clarence) Halma of Inwood, Iowa; nephew, Kyle Wilkens and his wife Becky who oversaw and cared for Charles for many years as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews, friends, and family members.
   Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Marlene Wilkens and Judith Halma; and brothers-in-law, Lester Wilkens and Sam Halma.
