Ireton Weekly Ledger of Aug 10, 1906

Mrs. Carsten Benit died Tuesday evening at nine o'clock of consumption. While it was known that she could not live long it was not expected that she would die so soon, as she seemed to be as well as usual that evening and had eaten some supper. The family had retired with the exception of Mr. Benit, who was also preparing for bed, when his wife called him to her bedside and talked with him. She began coughing and bleeding at the lungs and in a very few moments breathed her last. It is a hard blow to Mr. Benit and the children, of whom there are three one boy and two girls.

The funeral occurred in the Lutheran church yesterday and interment took place in the Lutheran cemetery. The family has sympathy of all in their bereavement.

(The Sioux County cemetery index lists Johanna H. Benit born 24 Mar 1871 died 7 Aug 1906 buried St. Paul’s cemetery Ireton IA. From ancestry.com her husband was Carsten Peter Benit born 2 May 1865 Hamburg Germany, died about 1948 Arnolds Park, IA. Their children in the 1900 census of Reading township were Minnie 9, Linda 4, and Eldo 1. From the marriage record of their daughter Linda Mrs. Nicolas Kahler which took place in Dickinson Coumty IA, learned the Johanna maiden name was Helsen.)
