Nicholas Fath, 56, died at his home in Alton Saturday, January 24 after an illness of several months. Taken ill soon after completion of corn picking on his farm, he spent a month from December 1 to 30th at the Veterans Hospital, Sioux Falls and failed rapidly after his return home

His hundreds of friends deeply regret his early passing and extend sympathy to the bereaved family, including his wife, who lost her mother only a week ago, and a daughter, Joyce, Mrs. Cecil Pottebaum of Alton; also two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Lou Fritz of Adrain, Minnesota; Mrs. Peter Schneider of Alton; John Fath of Lismore, Jake of Wilmont, Minnesota and Peter of Hawarden. A brother, Joe Fath of Lismore preceded him in death July, 1951.

He was born on a farm near Granville January 30, 1896, and at the time of his death was within a few days of reaching his 57th birthday. His parents were pioneer settlers, the late Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Fath. He attended St. Mary’s School at Alton and was married at St. Mary’s Church, January 25, 1926, to Miss Emma Homan. Previous to his marriage he served in World War I, with 13 months overseas duty in France.

The couple farmed near Remsen for a year, then moved to the Alton vicinity. They had lived for eight years on the farm one mile south of Alton.

Military rites were tendered him following the High Requiem Mass at 9:30 Tuesday morning. Reverend Z. Reising officiating. The Remsen Veterans of Foreign Wars assisted the local Floyd Post, American Legion in the military rites at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers were members of Floyd Post, including Hugo Jochum, Douwe De Boer, Otto Kettler, Frank Pottebaum, Albert Schnee, John Schmidt. At noon friends and neighbors served dinner at the parish hall.

Here from out of town for the services were Mrs. Joe Fath and Ervin, Mr. and Mrs. John Fath and Janet, Virgil Dollander, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Fath, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beckmann, Wilfred Fritz, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Pick, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Duwenhoegger, Mrs. Ike Erdman, all of Lismore, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Jake Fath, Joan and Floyd, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Al Fath, all of Wilmont, Minnesota, Mr. And Mrs. Lou Fritz of Adrian, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Fath, Mrs. Fred Fath of Des Moines; Mrs. Mary Streff, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Streff, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Anthony, Mr. and Mrs. John Van Deelan, Vivian and Odilo, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Homan and Irma, Ted Homan, all of St. Leo, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Baltes, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lundgren of Worthington, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Homan, Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schneider, Brewster, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Homan, Slayton, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Arens, Woodstock, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gergen, Granville; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Spieler, Remsen; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Homan, Sioux City.
